Hygge

I live with a host family here in Denmark and today we had a potluck for all of those host families living in the same area. We ate different danish foods and then gathered after into teams to play a few icebreaker games. At the end of the games, we all gathered into our groups and made a Lagkage or layer cake. This is a typical danish dessert made on birthdays or anniversaries.

After cake and coffee we gathered around a fire for hygge. This is a very important part of danish culture and basically means calm or peace of mind and cheerful mood. It usually involves something cozy and warm. We ate snobrød, which is bread twisted around a stick and roasted over a fire. Luckily the sun came out right as we came outside.
